Middle School Skills Development Camp Details

~Age Group:  Incoming 6-9^th graders

~Date:  Tuesday, June 18th

~Time: 11:00-3:00 PM

~All camps are open to any and all entrants (limited only by number, age, and grade level)

~The Middle School Skills Development camp will focus on aspects leading to success on the diamond: hitting, defense, pitching and base-running. Players will participate in drills (some based on specific position play) that our Sycamores use in daily practice. Each participant will receive a camp t-shirt and a personalized evaluation that can be used as a framework for improvement. Parents are welcome to stay and observe from the bleachers. Camp will end with a brief discussion of the college recruiting process.

~Camp will be moved to the ISU indoor facility - 55 Eagle St. Terre Haute in case of inclement weather.

~What to Bring: Each participant must bring their own glove, bat, hat, helmet, running shoes/turfs/cleats, batting gloves, and baseball pants. Catchers must bring their own gear. Be sure to add your name to your items -the camp is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

~Wellness/Liability-related issues: There will be a Certified Athletic Trainer in attendance throughout the duration of camp. Potential medical issues would be the responsibility of the participant’s parent/guardian.

**A liability/medical form must be completed by parent/guardian as part of the online registration process in order to participate in the camp. Campers will not be able to participate without a completed form.         

~Code of Conduct: Campers are expected to exhibit appropriate behaviors and positive sportsmanship at all times.

~If an athlete is unable to attend camp after registration has been completed, a credit for participation in a future camp date will be provided.

~Communications: After you complete the registration process, you will receive a confirmation email. A few days before the day of the camp you will receive another email with more details and instructions about the camp. The camp will feature instruction and evaluation from the ISU coaching staff as well as coaches from other colleges. ISU Prospect Camps have been vital to our recruiting process. Several current and former players were participants in this camp. Parents are welcome to stay and observe from the bleachers. This camp will also include an informational discussion of the college recruiting process that will be very helpful in navigating the college selection process.

~Camp registration is on a first come first serve basis. Enrollment will be cut off when maximum occupancy is met.

~Hitting camp will focus on batter box mechanics and consistency, working on lower half, hand path, extension finish and backspin and bunting. Mental approach at the plate and in-game adjustments will also be a priority of the day. Drills to develop skills leading to success will be practiced that can be taken home and refined over the next several months leading up to your spring season.

Catching and Pitching Camp Details

~Catcher’s camp will focus on the big three of catching kills: receiving, blocking and throwing. Emphasis of the day will include instruction on hip mobility, flexibility and strength, core strength, balance & stability, hand, wrist and forearm strength, vision training and more! Drills to develop skills leading to success will be practiced that can be taken home and refined over the next several months leading up to your spring season.

~Pitching camp will primarily be a mechanics seminar focusing on drills relating to many areas of emphasis: velocity training, weight training and core conditioning, bull pen and long toss routines, arm care, pickoff moves, pitchers fielding position and grips. Drills to develop skills leading to success will be practiced that can be taken home and refined over the next several months leading up to your spring season.
